CORD leader Raila Odinga,Kalonzo Musyoka,Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi are among the top opposition leaders who signed the “letter of intent”. The meeting was convened at a private location in Nairobi where the signatures were appended.
The move to disband CORD Coalition was due to readiness to form the National Super Alliance (NASA).The said letter was formalized on Tuesday evening and it clearly gives an outline the pricnciples guiding the formation of a new alliance. The document will later be taken to the Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung’u.
According to the standard, the letter outlines zero tolerance to corruption, implementation of the constitution and respect to the rule of laws some of its main values. Other values outlined in the document include economic development grounded on social democracy, human rights and dignity and promotion cohesion through comprehensive inclusiveness.
Lastly, there is integrity and transparency. The National Super Alliance (NASA) secretariat said the document will help to enhance unity among opposition leaders. He also said that the document was signed as a sign of preparedness towards the coming general elections. “The principals agreed to form a coalition with guiding values and principals of governance. We don’t want to go to an election as a divided family and so we must prepare a pre-election coalition agreement, “quoted the secretariat.
Earlier this week, opposition party leaders selected a team which will deliberate on how power is going to be shared and also appoint the NASA presidential flag bearer.
