Speaking at Intercontinental Hotel, Wetangula disclosed that
their relationship was ignited after Kalonzo won the election courtesy of his
contribution.
“I
first met him in 1985 when he wrote to me to ask for a donation for his
by-election campaign. I donated Sh500, which was a lot of money then.”
“When
he won, he wrote to say thank you and said that he won the by-election because
of the donation. We have been friends ever since,” Wetangula revealed.
The
Bungoma Senator was addressing a gathering at an exclusive event organised to
celebrate Kalonzo after he was awarded the African Dignitary Man of the Year on
August 19, 2016.
With
the continued effforts to to help the poor and preach peace,Raila Odinga urged
Kalonzo to extend his services not only in Kenya but also to the rest of the
world.
“Kalonzo
is trying to bridge the gap and provide opportunities to those that the system
has denied,” Odinga stated.
The
former Vice President dedicated the award to his wife Pauline and Kenyans at
large, promising to continue helping the poor through his Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation.
Mr Kalonzo said “I have
committed myself to the fight against poverty and I will be even passionate in
the fight against corruption,”.
Kalonzo
was feted by, we Care for Humanity Organisation,
for his efforts to help the less privileged in society.
“On the
basis of your unequivocal contribution to humanity, by demonstrating
selflessness, caring for the less privileged, and your spirit of unity and
integrity, I have the pleasure to announce that the GOD Awards Committee have
reached a unanimous decision to recognize Your Excellency as AFRICAN DIGNITARY
MAN OF THE YEAR. It is our strong belief that your accomplishments should be
shared with and showcased before the global audience at the United Nations,”
part of the statement by the organisation read.
