Deputy President William Ruto has finally told off former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru who has been the subject of discussion in recent days.
Speaking in Nyeri County during a tour of the Central region, Ruto told Waiguru to carry her own cross and leave his office out of the scandal since she was in charge during the theft.
"We have taken people to court in cases of theft like that which occurred at NYS, a department led by Madam Waiguru.
People must take responsibility and not try to be cunning," he stated.
Ruto made the statement just a day after Waiguru distanced herself from the scam blaming cartels for conspiring to taint her name and fix her since she was in charge when the money was allegedly lost.
Appearing before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Waiguru linked DP Ruto's personal assistant Farouk Kibet to the loot claiming that the aide had been in constant communication with Ben Gethi – one of the main suspects in the theft.
She divulged that before the scandal was exposed, Kibet had spoken to Gethi 150 times adding that Ruto's assistant had received Sh1 Million of the stolen money
Waiguru further mentioned an employee in Ruto's office who she said was used to distribute Sh200 Million to Members of Parliament in 2015 for them to push her out of office.
During the PAC grilling, Waiguru indicated that National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen had also been mentioned in the scandal.
Waiguru was summoned before the Committee to shed light on her stint at the Devolution Ministry during which more than Sh1.6 Billion was allegedly lost through manipulation of the Intergrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).
Other suspects who appeared before PAC including businesswoman Josephine Kabura and former Principal Secretary Peter Mangiti all pointed fingers at Waiguru as being the mastermind of the scandal.
