This followed an announcement that Odinga would join hands with Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi under what has been christened a National Super Alliance (NASA). Sources privy to the meeting revealed that though the negotiations were not conclusive, the leaders talked about a probable line-up in case NASA is finally formed.
According to research conducted by Kenyans.co.ke,the opposition leaders including Senators James Orengo (Siaya), Johnstone Muthama (Machakos) and Ford-Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simuyu apparently decided to use the same structure they had in 2013 but add additional positions of two vice presidents, a prime minister and two deputies to accommodate all interested members.
Further to the top positions, they also shared out seats of Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate which they said would be set aside for a person from Mt Kenya, Kisii, Western or Coast region. It was also revealed that Kalonzo agreed to drop his hard-line stance that the coalition's flag bearer should be named before the end of 2016 instead of early next year. "Consultations are still ongoing and they agreed to find a presidential candidate next year.
For now, CORD is still preoccupied with ensuring that the next elections are free, fair, credible and transparent," the source was quoted. To have the new lineup in place, CORD plans to call for a referendum if it wins the 2017 election for the new positions to be entrenched in the Constitution. NASA is expected to comprise of leaders from ODM, Wiper, Ford Kenya, KANU, led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, and Charity Ngilu's NARC.
