Ward-Representative Boniface Okenye was allegedly caught by ODM supporters
bribing locals to vote for the Jubilee candidate in the By-election.
Amid the mayhem sparked by youth who threatened to pounce on
him, Mr Okenye pulled out his gun and shot in the air three times before
escaping. Reports indicate the MCA had been campaigning for Maxwell Magoma, who
is the Jubilee candidate in the Nyacheki Ward mini-poll.
Confirming the
incident, Nyamache OCPD Japheth Mwirichia, divulged that they were pursuing the
MCA who had escaped from the venue. “We will do everything to apprehend him. We
have enough security to deal with such individuals,” Mwirichia stated. ODM
treasurer Timothy Bosire condemned the incident stating: “This is not
acceptable especially when he was found bribing voters, such is
prosecutable." Both Magoma and Naftal Onkoba – the ODM candidate – have
cried foul over rampant voter bribery by politicians in the area.
The County legislator
was elected with an ODM ticket but has since shifted alliance and joined the
newly formed Jubilee Party. Meanwhile, the thildren of an ODM party leader
vying for a Ward-Representative seat in Turkana's by-election were on Tuesday
shot after allegedly hired goons stormed his house.
Confirming the incident, Turkana Central
Sub-County OCPD Joel Kirui stated that the attack on Josephat Ekeno's home saw
his 8-year-old and 18-year-old children sustain serious injuries. The two were
rushed to Lodwar County Referral Hospital where they are currently receiving
treatment.
