ODM Party Gets Another Huge Blow

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has lost in its bid to compel the Registrar of Political Parties to release Sh5 Billion owed to the party.

A Nairobi court on Friday declined to give the order as requested by the Orange party and instead set the case for hearing on October 25. The Party had on Monday filed an application at Milimani High Court under a certificate of urgency to have the money released from the Political Parties Fund. Through lawyers James Orengo and Julie Soweto, the ODM accused the Registrar of acting unlawfully by withholding the funds since the kitty was created. “The failure or refusal to disburse all the funds due to the political party undermines democracy, the rule of law, and the objectives for which the Fund was established. ODM has a right and is entitled to receive funds from the Political Parties Fund,” they stated. ODM further submitted that its ability to efficiently prepare for the 2017 elections was being hampered greatly financial constraints. “The next General Election is barely a year away and the applicant’s ability to prepare and participate meaningfully and effectively is greatly affected by the lack of funding,” the party indicated in the court papers. Also enjoined in the case were The National Alliance Party (TNA) and the United Republican Party (URP) with ODM arguing the Registrar should be obliged to release the monies to it and other political parties. The three parties are each supposed to receive Sh5 Billion from the Political Parties Fund before the 2017 Election - an amount that is set to strengthen the parties' war chests ahead of the upcoming polls.

I WON'T BE RAILA'S RUNNING MATE IN 2017,GOVERNOR HASSAN JOHO SAYS

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has dispelled fears within CORD that he was being groomed to be Raila Odinga's running mate in next year's elections. He said he was campaigning countrywide to strengthen CORD and popularise Raila to face Jubilee in next year's polls but had no interest to be his running mate next year. "I want to make it very clear that I will defend my seat as governor of Mombasa in 2017. ODM has already endorsed Raila Odinga as its presidential nominee and I urge Wiper and Ford Kenya to do so that their nominees can face Raila in the CORD nomination," Mr Joho said. He said this Thursday when he commissioned the construction of Shelly Beach Road and sanitation projects at Mwangala and Longo primary schools in Likoni Constituency. The estimated Sh1 billion project involves construction of toilet blocks and hand wash facilities for all the 94 public primary schools and is set to benefit over 70,000 pupils. The county has committed funds for 31 schools and is seeking donors for the remaining.

ODM STRATEGY TO GET MORE VOTES IN 2017

The Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party has devised a new way to ensure that their supporters are registered and ready for the 2017 General Election.

ODM Rally

Led by Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, the Orange Party leaders promised to give cash donations to Ward offices with the highest number of registered voters.

On Sunday, Mr Ranguma gave a whopping Sh1 Million to ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho to be handed to the best ODM office in terms of voter registration.

“We want our people to register in big numbers for elections come 2017 so that we can realise the much-hyped dream of CORD leader Raila Odinga becoming President,” Ranguma was quoted by the Standard.

Mombasa Governor indicated that the program would be rolled out in the Coastal region before the end of the year in a bid to ensure that their people are well equipped to force the Jubilee Government out of power.

Other leaders including Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, Migori’s Okoth Obado and Siaya’s Cornel Rasanga have also promised to embrace the strategy in their counties.

The leaders have also vowed to enter into more rigorous campaigns in their areas to attract more followers.

ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani noted: "We want as many people as possible to register for elections so that we can combine our strength to push the Jubilee regime out of power."

Why Joho will fail you in 2017,Duale tell Raila

Majority Leader of the National Assembly Aden Duale on Sunday warned ODM leader Raila Odinga that Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho would ruin his chances of becoming the President of Kenya in 2017.

Aden Duale and Raila Odinga

Addressing residents of Changamwe in Mombasa, Duale announced that if Odinga picks Joho as his running mate instead of either Kalonzo Musyoka or Moses Wetangula, he was destined to fail in his presidential bid.

“Ati running mate yako ni Joho ndo utaanguka ile mbaya kabisa… Ati unawacha Kalonzo Musyoka ako na karibu 1.5 Millio Kuras… Unawacha huyu wetangula mluhya… hujawahi kuanguka… Utaanguka until you break your skull,” Duale affirmed.

Loosely translated: “If you chose Joho as your running mate and drop Kalonzo and Wetangula, You will miserably fail in 2017.”

Duale's sentiments come a day after some ODM leaders proposed, during a recent rally in Kisumu County, that Joho ought to be Odinga's running mate.

The Orange party has maintained that among the three CORD co-principals, Raila is the best-suited candidate to challenge President Kenyatta in the upcoming polls.

Kalonzo and Wetangula have urged Odinga to drop his presidential ambition and give either of them a chance since he had tried several times and failed.
