CORD leader Raila Odinga on Friday sent a strong message after Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua declared her support for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking after a funeral service in Nairobi, Odinga stated that Karua was his friend and that he was not worried about her move affirming that the CORD coalition would instead grow stronger.
He asserted that the two had been working closely in pointing out various failures of the Jubilee government assuring that her decision would not affect CORD in any way.
"Martha has a right and she remains a friend.
We (CORD) are growing by the day and are concerned about the people, not a person. More are joining. It is going to be more than a tsunami," Odinga affirmed.
The former Prime Miinister said that he had been a close ally of Ms Karua especially during the Okoa Kenya Movement but disclosed that the closeness had since fizzled out.
The ODM party leader was speaking after the two met at the Nairobi Central Seventh Day Adventist Church during the burial of Mama Peris Kegoro - the mother of Kenya Human Rights Commission Executive Director George Kegoro.
During, the event, Karua was called to condole with the family and on her way to the podium, she passed by Odinga and shook his hand.
After she concluded her speech, the former Gichugu MP called the former Prime Minister to address the mourners terming him, “my friend and colleague.”
Despite being a strong critic of President Kenyatta's administration, the 2013 presidential aspirant pulled a major political surprise after backing Kenyatta's re-election bid stating that he was the choice of Kirinyaga people.
She noted that the Head of State is determined to fight corruption and promised to support his efforts.
"My party will not be fielding a presidential candidate in 2017 and the residents from this region want Mr Kenyatta to go back to State House. I have no problem with that," she stated.
