Find Out Why Former CS Ann Waiguru Disowned Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru’s grilling session on Thursday afternoon continued on a dramatic note as the fallen ex-minister disowned political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi.
PAC Chair Nicholas Gumbo had sought to confirm with Waiguru, Ngunyi’s claim that he had been called by the former minister and asked to start working for the Devolution Ministry without a tender process or advertisement. In response, Waiguru denied the allegation insisting that she was not the government officer who contracted Ngunyi’s firm but added that she had worked well with the Consulting House - a security consultancy firm owned by the political analyst. “Everything Mutahi Ngunyi says is not always true, I take what he says with a pinch of salt,” the former Devolution boss told MPs.

She further claimed that the explanation provided by the political analyst with regard to an excess payment of Sh10 Million paid to him did not add up. “If you go to your bank and find money that does not belong to you, it is upon you to refund to the rightful owner,” she stated.

The MPs were not satisfied with the answer and continued to probe Waiguru on who had rewarded the multimillion contracts to Ngunyi’s firm. Confirming to the committee,Ngunyi said that he neither tendered nor approached the ministry for the contracts he carried out.

He told us you called him on his phone and asked him to start working...that everything else would be a formality, how do you then claim you did not award him the tender?” Gumbo wondered. The probing was not kindly received by Waiguru and she responded firmly, “I am stating here on the record that I am not the one who hired him (Ngunyi) if someone else says I did - then that’s their record”. The matter ended there as she declined to expound on the circumstances leading to the hiring of Ngunyi and his team.

Ann Waiguru Tells Raila Odinga To Leave President Uhuru Kenyatta Alone

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru on Wednesday came out to strongly defend President Uhuru Kenyatta over allegations of engaging in a secret water project in Murang’a.

Speaking in her Gichugu backyard, Waiguru also hit out at ODM leader Raila Odinga, accusing the former premier of playing politics with serious development matters. The former CS refuted Odinga’s comments that the Northern Collector Tunnel Project would have negative effects on the environment. Waiguru told Kirinyaga residents that as someone who had worked with international organisations, it was not possible for the World Bank to fund a secretive project.
According to Waiguru, the ODM leader’s accusations regarding the water project were aimed at giving Odinga political mileage in the President’s stronghold of Central Kenya. The former CS further warned Odinga not to waste time attacking President Kenyatta's development projects as they were for the benefit of Kenyans. The Opposition leader and Ms Waiguru have had a rocky relationship with Odinga being one of the first opponents of the NYS projects which the former CS spearheaded while serving at the Devolution Ministry. In 2015, Odinga came out claiming that the NYS had lost millions of public money as a result of corruption in Waiguru’s docket. The claim was initially rejected by Waiguru who insisted that no money had been lost. Weeks later, the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that Sh791 Million had been lost at NYS. After months of political pressure, Waiguru resigned from the government on what she termed ‘health grounds’. She is currently campaigning for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat and is seeking a Jubilee ticket.
