Police To Arrest The Wife Of A Jubilee Politician Accused Of Heroin Trafficking

Police have been ordered to arrest Joyce Akinyi, wife to former Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala after she skipped court in a case where she is accused of trafficking illegal drugs. The warrant of arrest was issued on Thursday after Akinyi and three of her co-accused skipped court.
The government prosecutor asked the magistrate to issue the warrants of arrest so that the drug trafficking suspects could be forcefully availed in court.

Akinyi’s charges, as provided by the prosecutor, stated that "on March 25, 2015 at Dam Two Estate in Lang’ata, Nairobi, jointly with John Alex Otieno, Rispa Auma and Kelvin Odour they were found in possession of heroin valued at Sh4.2 Million." While pleading with the court for bail, Otieno and Oduor confirmed that they are students at a city school.

The politician’s wife is also faced with a second charge alongside John Alex where they are accused of trafficking heroin at her Deep West Resort in Langata, Nairobi. Her three co-accused have an extra but separate charge of trafficking cocaine which was valued at Sh4.6 Million. Akinyi is out on a Sh500,000 bond.

The case will be mentioned on November 24 when police are expected to forcefully present the accused persons. Akinyi rose to national fame after she had a highly publicised fallout with her former husband and Nigerian drug lord Antony Chinedu. In 2013, the controversial businesswoman was arrested together with his current husband on suspicion of drug possession.

The two were later released after the powdered substance, which was suspected to be an illegal drug, was found to be flour.
