IEBC on Friday made an announcement that, it would go ahead and audit the voters register despite opposition from the CORD coalition which had advocated for creation of a new register.
The electoral body is now busy preparing for the coming general elections and all arrangements are in top gear .the process would start with the review of voter listings. “Eleven firms, who responded to the expression of interest, are being evaluated and those who meet the requirements will be invited to respond to a request for proposal,” the commission divulged.
The Opposition Raila Odinga, had rejected further plans relating to the upcoming polls questioning the legal capacity of the team since the commissioners had already tendered their resignation letters to President Uhuru Kenyatta. Siaya Senator James Orengo had earlier stated that,“The outgoing commissioners have no legal competence and cannot constitute the commission.
They cannot act in the capacity of commissioners,” CORD had also cautioned against procurement of electoral kits until a new team takes charge, a suggestion which IEBC has also rejected noting it was already preparing an ICT framework for use in the 2017 election.
The commission further stated that they are receiving public comments and contributions on the proposals to be included in the ICT regulations.
