Obama Reveals Why Raila Odinga Lost In 2013 General Elections

President Barack Obama’s elder brother Malik Obamahas sensationally claimed that ODM leader Raila Odingafailed in the 2013 elections because he failed to cooperate with him. According to Malik, Odinga sidelined him in the campaigns and refused to listen to the political strategies he had provided. He further claimed that it was as a result of that failure to embrace his advise that Odinga failed to beat President Uhuru Kenyatta to become the 4th President

During the 2013 elections, Malik vied for the Siaya gubernatorial seat where he came a distant last with about 2,000 votes compared to the over 140,000 votes scooped by the winning candidate. His seemingly arrogant comments, which were made on his Twitter account, did not go well with some of Odinga’s supporters. One user replied, “Raila is the people's president you are a very materialistic fellow..shut up and wait for Trump to give you kazi ya kuosha choo! (a toilet cleaning job).” Another user replied to Malik, “blame your cousin Raila” to which Malik was quick to deny the former premier. “Raila is not my cousin people; unless it is in the African context!” Malik clarified. Malik appeared to contradict Odinga’s previous claim that President Obama’s father was his maternal uncle thus making him a cousin to Malik and Barack.

Odinga initially made the claims at the height of the 2008 post-election violence during an interview with BBC. When the international media probed him, President Obama - then-Illinois senator and Presidential candidate - denied having blood relations with Odinga. In May this year, Odinga - during an interview with Al Jazeera journalist Mehdi Hassan - explained that he had no blood relations with the US President, but noted that his mother and Obama's father were of the same clan.
