Find Out Why This ODM MP May Not Be Released From Policy Custody Soon

Police officers on Tuesday evening arrested Laikipia North Member of Parliament Mathew Lempurkel after he was accused of fighting with Jubilee nominated lawmaker Sara Korere.
The legislator landed himself in more trouble after sending a lewd and threatening message to Ms Korere after the fight which took place at Harambee House, which houses offices of President Uhuru Kenyatta. The legislator was taken to Kileleshwa Police Station.

The arrest came after Korere reported the threatening message to Nairobi police officers while accompanied by female lawmakers. During a press conference held at Parliament buildings, the MPs led by Nairobi Woman Representative Rachel Shebesh read out the message calling on the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to take stern action against Lempurkel.

In the message seen by Kenyanspolitics101, the legislator called his female rival among other names "idiot and "prostitute", demanding she withdraws a case she filed against him over the fight. Earlier in the day, local leaders from Laikipia County had also demanded for arrest of the ODM legislator accusing him of being a threat to peace in the region. “We demand for the immediate arrest of Mr Lempurkel. This man has been inciting communities against each other. “We are ready to provide evidence to the investigating authorities.

The MP is a serious threat to the peace of the county,” they stated. Trouble began on Monday afternoon after Lempurkel and Korere reportedly got into a physical exchange at the offices of Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery. According to Korere, she had been invited for a meeting with the CS alongside Members of Laikipia County Assembly when the incident happened. While at Nkaissery's offices, she claimed the ODM MP arrived and started hurling abuses, eventually slapping and kicking her.

The two are said to have been forcefully ejected from the CS's offices and taken to Parliament Police Station where they recorded statements before the nominated MP sought medical assistance from Nairobi Women Hospital. Mr Lempurkel however, disputed her version of the story claiming to have been assaulted and injured on the head and chest by Korere, with the assistance of the MCAs.
