TWO WOMEN KILLED IN KISII BY POLICE OFFICERS

Police officers attached to the Administration Police Quick Response Team (QRT) on Thursday evening killed two women at Daraja Mbili market in Kisii County.
According to eyewitnesses, the officers who were driving in a police vehicle encountered a boda-boda accident and tried to intervene. A confrontation ensued prompting the two women to move in pleading with the officers to forgive the riders. Minutes later, gunshots were heard. One of the women died on the spot while the other was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH). One of the victims identified as Edna Osoro, 27, was reportedly a tomato seller. Edna's father, Mr John Osoro, could not hold back his tears as he watched his daughter on the ground lifeless. "I have just seen the worst day of my life. How could my daughter die in such an unnecessary manner?" Mr Osoro said while weeping. The incident sparked heavy protests in the area, with boda-boda riders barricading the Kisii-Migori until around 9pm when police managed to contain the situation. Edna's body was transferred to the KTRH morgue at 9:30pm. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the officers involved in the killing are part of Deputy President William Ruto's security detail. On Thursday, Ruto was in Kisii where he graced the International Day of Older Persons celebrations at Gusii Stadium, Nyaribari Chache Constituency.
