KIDERO OFFICIALLY ENDORSES PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA AT NAIROBI AGRICULTURAL SHOW

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero on Wednesday sparked a hullabaloo on social media after making a statement that clearly came out as an endorsement of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 2017 presidential bid.
Speaking at the 2016 Nairobi International Trade Fair, Kidero in a message to the president said: "Let me just thank you for always honouring us from 2013, you were here ... this year, we're together and we are definite and confident that you will be with us in 2017." Even President Kenyatta took the statement as an endorsement and even went ahead to thank the governor for believing in him. "And I look forward ... nikijaliwa na mwenyezi Mungu na maombi ya Kidero nirudi 2017. Asante sana,” Uhuru said. While it’s not clear whether the governor actually intended to express his support for Kenyatta, one thing was for sure – the Nairobi County boss had opened a can of worms and was in, for a political quagmire. Amid the online furore sparked by his remarks, Kidero attempted to salvage the situation by explaining what he meant by saying he hoped President Kenyatta would be at the Trade Fair in 2017. "Just to be clear, I was inviting H.E Uhuru Kenyatta to next year's Nairobi Intl. Trade Fair since he's a fairly successful dairy farmer." The ODM Governor denied making the remark as an endorsement of Uhuru's 2017 bid for the presidency. Considering that next year’s polls are set to be held in August and the Agricultural Show later in October, Kidero’s statement would at the least imply that Kenyatta would be the President to grace next year's event.
