This highly anticipated meeting was held at Okoa Kenya offices located in Karen. Notable in this session was the manner in which all the co-principals including Musalia Mudavadi grasped and lifted their hands in solidarity. The leaders also expressed sober moods with all smiles on their faces. This kind of happiness indicated that each contestant was optimistic of being pronounced as the NASA Presidential flag bearer come August 8th.
Later in the day, the leaders managed to submit the NASA coalition agreement to the registrar of political parties for registration. Other documents provided alongside the NASA agreement was the death certificate for the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) which indicated a new begging. Contained in this agreement was a creation of more positions in government in case they manage to overthrow President Uhuru Kenyatta from power come August 8th.
.Article five of the accord also indicates a high possibility of amending the constitution. Such amendments will strengthen devolution by allocating more resources to county governments. The document signed also aims at achieving an electoral system which is more inclusive than the incumbent. At the same time, NASA coalition will work towards the realignment of the political system so as to achieve both social and political realities.
During this meeting, the National Coordinating Committee comprising of members from the form parties was created, but some room was left for admitting new members. The agreement states that power will be shared based on the status of founder members, portfolio balance and performance. Among the key areas where power will be communicated is the executive appointments, legislative offices, national government and other key legal positions.
Kalonzo Musyoka gave an excellent speech which trended online for the better part of the day. He assured Kenyans that NASA leader are not power hungry, but they are looking forward to restoring the dignity of Kenyans.
The coalition is expected to unveil their presidential candidate early next month
