Here Is The New Strategy Used By Opposition To Ensure High Voter Registration In Their Strongholds Ahead Of August 8 Elections

ODM party Raila Odinga has responded to IEBC’s recent voter registration reports by forming a new team to assist in voter registration exercise.
This move comes few days after IEBC announced on Monday that opposition strongholds were lagging behind in the ongoing voter registration exercise which has been going on throughout the country.

ODM Chairman John Mbadi confirmed that ODM has made efforts towards mobilizing voter registration through the formation of new ward committees. He urged supporters across the country to register as voters since CORD leader Raila Odinga was not happy with the low turnout. Mbadi went ahead to say that the new ward committees are tasked to ensure that more people enlist as voters at ward levels.

Members of parliament allied to CORD coalition will also head and supervise the ongoing voter registration exercise. According to IEBE new elect chairman Wafula Chebukati, the electoral body has only managed to register 1,539,879 voter which is far below their set target of 6 million new voter.

From the statistics by IEBC given , Nairobi (182,265) and Kiambu (106,223) counties were leading respectively in the registration of new voters. Other counties included Nakuru (77,970), Meru (67,665) and Mombasa (55,967). Chebukati also noted that Kericho, Kakamega, Siaya, Kitui, Nyeri,Vihiga are among the counties with the least number of newly registered voters.
