The said laws permit the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to use a manual register should the electronic system fail which the opposition is currently opposing. if President Uhuru Kenyatta will not reverse the newly passed electoral laws In nine days, CORD plans to retaliate.
The amendments which were passed on Thursday, December 22 allow the IEBC to use a manual register should the electronic system fail. According to CORD the use of a manual register is one of the ways that would be used to rig the 2017 General Elections.
Previously Raila had observed that Uhuru stole the 2013 election with more than 2 million votes which cannot be accounted for.
"We decided to allow our people to celebrate Christmas peacefully even after Jubilee provoked us by reversing the election laws we negotiated jointly,"Raila said in a statement. If Uhuru does not reverse the laws, there will be no room for dialogue with the opposition which feels cheated.
On Wednesday the senate is likely to meet for a special sitting to debate on whether to pass or reject the newly passed law. While attending a church service in Bondo Raila said that if diplomacy failed, CORD would take to the streets. The aim of the protests is to give Kenyans a credible and transparent election in 2017.
